HANDS OFF VENEZUELA

Dear friends,As only a handful of people expressed their availability to get together to monitor the ongoing Venezuelan elections, we have decided to cancel the pot luck at the HOV offices. We invite you, however, to follow the election results from the comfort of your own home. Below is some information from former Twin Cities-ean Patrick Leet, on how to get news and updates from "the ground." If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 651-373-7609.In solidarity,John PetersonTwin Cities HOV
Hermanas, hermanos -
Tomorrow (Sunday) is election-day in Venezuela. While Hugo Chavez is not up for election, just about everything else is. There are more than 300 local mayor´s offices and 22 of the 24 governorships to be voted upon.
While this might not sound like much, a lot are saying that tomorrow´s results could play a significant role in advancing – or setting back – the political process led by Hugo Chavez and el pueblo de Venezuela that has been unfolding in here over the last 10 years.
This country plays host to a wide variety of complex realities, as we know, and many will be on display tomorrow.
If you are interested in hearing more, I invite you to join a live broadcast via internet of Radio Venezuela en Vivo, an initiative to transmit to an international audience everything we won´t hear via corporate media channels, guaranteed to provide all the distorted spin that we are now used to. The first step in getting beyond the boldfaced lies repeated (and repeated and repeated) about Venezuela is to educate ourselves, and tomorrow provides a great opportunity.
Radio Venezuela en Vivo is an independent, 100% volunteer effort transmitting on-the-ground coverage of tomorrow´s elections – live – to an international audience in English, French, and Portuguese. With dozens of correspondents stationed around the country as well as up-to-the-minute analysis, coverage will provide a lot of perspectives not found elsewhere. The website, for more information, is:
http://radiovenezuelaenvivo.blogspot.com/
There you can find all the information you need to know what times of the days the broadcasts – via internet – will be in English (or French or Portuguese, if you prefer).
Feel free to call in via skype (address on the website) or send in your comments, questions, etc. to me directly or to the e-mail address also available on the website.

Solidariously yours,
Patrick
