Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came out to support D'Amicoworkers this morning to protest the unfair firing of 14 workers. Forthose of you who have not heard about this, D'Amico is using No Matchletters as an excuse to lay off 14 workers. Executives expected thatthey could do it quietly without any reaction from workers...theycould not have been more wrong...Last Friday the 14 workers turned in charges of discrimination to theEEOC, and a delegation marched on the president of the company todeliver him copies. This morning, 7 workers organized a work stoppagestarting at 7am, demanding to meet with executives of the company andrefusing to work until they had a meeting. Nearly 30 workers signedpetitions denouncing the discriminatory practices of the company, including around 10-15 new employees. One of the new employeesrefused to come to work this morning, and another new employee joinedthe 7 other workers in the work stoppage. Between 7am-12:30pm, over50 community allies came out to picket lines (including 10 SEIU
members) to support the workers in their work stoppage. Starting atnoon, phone lines at the restaurant were tied up with people callingup demanding that the company met with workers. All of the pressure succeeded in getting a meeting with the CFO andtwo of D'Amico's lawyers. While the company did not change itsstance, it was clear that the company was impacted by all of theactions of workers and allies...and it was also clear that we neededto keep the movement growing. All of the workers agree that this isnot just about D'Amico workers, but about all workers. If D'Amico canget away with enforcing its own interpretation of No Match letters, other companies will attempt to follow suite. Therefore, D'Amico workers have planned several more actions that wewould like to invite you to:- Tuesday, April 1, 5:45am meet at D'Amico at Hennepin and 22nd- Sunday, April 6, 11am meet at WIN offices (2511 E. Franklin Ave) togo to a surprise location- Friday, April 11, 5:30pm meet at WIN offices to go to anothersurprise location- Thursday, April 17, 11:30am meet at WIN offices for more fun- Saturday, April 26, 5pm meet at WIN offices for the most fun yet!Call WIN offices with any questions - 612-332-0663Brian

“Ningún pueblo de América Latina es débil, porque forma parte de una familia de doscientos millones de hermanos que padecen las mismas miserias, albergan los mismos sentimientos, tienen el mismo enemigo, sueñan todos un mismo mejor destino y cuentan con la solidaridad de todos los hombres y mujeres honrados del mundo entero.” (Segunda declaración de la Habana)
